24 JANUARY TO 11 APRIL
Trabalho refundido
All ages
Event
The studio of the artist and filmmaker Pedro Bastos (Guimarães, 1980)—an abandoned industrial space, described in his own words as “a place of shadows and ghosts of this territory”—and the objects he found there, left to rust and decay, form the basis of his most recent artistic production. The decommissioned factory and his lived experience of the space define the framework for this exhibition, which brings together, among other works, paintings on various surfaces (metal sheets, Kraft paper, and the gallery walls) and moving images—expressions, according to the artist, of “the desire to preserve memory as it tends toward erasure. Every attempt to recover it is like remelting itself.”
The exhibition is also shaped by the artist’s frequent presence in the space, whether working—such as executing a mural—or engaging in conversations throughout the exhibition period with a circle of people who have been following his work. Trabalho Refundido offers an immersion into Pedro Bastos’s expansive and multifaceted artistic practice, a practice in constant flux, which he understands as a resonating echo of his lived experience and his perspective on the world.
