Born and raised on the island of Santiago, in Cape Verde, this musician, who has an impressive curriculum, played a key role in the modernization of Cape Verdean music in the 1970s and 1980s, and took part in ground-breaking records such as “Trapiche”, by Alexandre Monteiro, or “África Ê” , by Tiny das Neves. He was also part of the group that accompanied Cesária Évora at the beginning of her long career.
Based in Lisbon (Amadora) since the late 1970s, Julinho da Concertina has developed his own identity as a harmonica player, in a melodic style, that can be recognised by any lover of Funaná music. In 2018, he finished his second album of original compositions, released by the CelesteMariposa Discos label.
