The artist Ana Vaz (Brasília, 1986) is known for her films, writings and video installations that combine ethnography and speculation, and which critically address the relationship between myth and colonial history.

Defying gravity, a game of levitation immediately engenders the possibility of magic; or a translation of an irrepressible desire for control.

Ana Vaz was born in the Brazilian highlands inhabited by the ghosts buried by its modernist capital Brasília. Originally from the cerrado and wonderer by choice, Ana lived in the arid lands of central Brazil and of southern Australia, in the mangroves of northern France and at the northeastern margins of Atlantic in Portugal. Currently, she traces her path between Paris, Lisbon and Brasília. Her filmography activates and questions cinema as an art of the (in)visible as well as as an instrument capable of dehumanising the human, expanding its becomings with other forms of life — other-than-human or spectral. Consequences or expansions of her cinematography, her activities are also embodied in writing, critical pedagogy, installations or collective walks.
