Critical Creation, with Lígia Soares
Ages 6 and up
Event
The second guest in 2025 for the “Critical Creation” program is the Portuguese artist Lígia Soares. We decided to keep mixing the program, this time reversing the logic of critical gaze. Before the artist provides guidance on three texts in development, we will invite some young people from the University of Minho to work with her on the text she will present. “Namoro”, a second version of “Romance” designed for youth, will be presented to the Theatre undergraduate classes at the University of Minho, after having been adapted by the artist to the age context of higher education.
Lígia Soares, Portuguese choreographer and playwright. She holds a degree from the Escola Superior de Dança (IPL).
She began her career as an actress with the Sensurround Theatre Company in 1997. From 2004 to 2006, she was an artist-in-residence at Tanzfabrik-Berlin. Her work has been presented both nationally and internationally, featured in several international contemporary dance programs.
Following works such as Romance, Turning Backs, and O Ato da Primavera, she continues to explore ways of creating stage devices that include the presence of the spectator as a constituent element of the dramaturgy of the performance. She has four published plays with the publishing house Douda Correria.
Her play Cinderella won the Eurodram Prize in 2018.
Lígia will provide critical guidance for three texts currently in creation. Selected artists who are not residents of Guimarães will be hosted at the Centro de Criação in Candoso.
Free entry, subject to available capacity
