This project — which was awarded the “Complementary School Activity” prize by the Portuguese Museum Association in 2021 — reaches its 10th and final edition in 2025/2026. Continuing the path developed in the previous year, 7 schools and 7 associations/institutions from the municipality have been selected.
The project “Memória do Trabalho” proposes an artistic and educational approach centred on intergenerational relationships between older adults and children, with the concept and experiences of work as its thematic axis. Conceived and led by Amanda Midori and Ludgero Almeida, this year’s project is based on the premise that memory is also a form of work — of evocation, narration and (re)construction. Older participants, through their narratives and objects of remembrance, become mediators of experiences and stories that are shared and reinvented by children, in dialogue with their own time.
The encounter between both groups will take place across five moments, unfolding between the Casa da Memória de Guimarães, the participating schools and senior institutions. Activities include collaborative creation exercises, listening moments, conversations, audiovisual documentation, and poetic and visual productions using xerography, cut-out and collage techniques.
The process culminates in the exhibition “Memória do Trabalho”, scheduled for June 2026, which will bring together videos, photographs, installations and works resulting from the collective journey. Through this project, the aim is to strengthen dialogue between generations and to value older adults and children as active agents in the (re)configuration of a shared memory of work, potentially weaving together stories of the past and the present with imaginations of the future.
