Gaia Banfi (IT)
Event
Gaia Banfi was born in Milan and has been living in Bologna for several years, but in her album it is Genoa that resonates—the place of her childhood—which here transforms into an imaginary setting for a symbolic dimension in which everyone can recognize themselves. Across seven tracks, all those melancholies that grow with us, the absences, the turbulent and dark loves, the unrequited ones, but also the vitality, the discovery, the absence of judgment, and finally the awareness, inner achievements, clemency, and self-love, find their voice.
The Maccaia, Gaia Banfi’s new album, refers to a particular meteorological condition that occurs exclusively in the Gulf of Genoa, when the sirocco wind blows, the sky becomes overcast, and humidity reaches very high levels, creating a kind of fog that hovers over the sea and merges with it. Paolo Conte already described it in his famous Genova per noi — says Gaia. My passion for imagery and observation always drives me to get as close as possible, on a sensory level, to sounds and visions. That’s why I tried to visualize what it would be like to listen to my album while the fog stratifies over the sea.
