XEXA remains undefined, hovering over her origins, influences and points of reference. Her music is shaped by echoes of all these elements, processing heritage and future in an equally democratic way, confident in its (her!) path. However synthetic it may sound, Kissom contains a deeply human element of XEXA’s presence — not only through her instantly recognisable ethereal vocals, but also in the web of grooves that stop short of the dancefloor. Kizomba 003 is where she comes closest to it: a pared-down take on the popular style of kizomba, a low-key interpretation with vocals placed atypically high in the mix. A brief breath of nostalgia. Kissom (the title track) extends the slow tempo, almost like an extended version of Kizomba 003, stretching its sensual bounce for nearly four more delightful minutes.
