This is the story of a dance.
A dance that has been haunting me.
A dance that was hidden,
resisting totalitarianism and the values of a not-so-ancient past.
A dance that my grandmother used to dance.
And her friends.
It was danced in their courtyards and the threshing grounds.
Until it was no more.
A dance that ignited a desire. A bonfire.

How did we get here?
Moving between performative lecture and documentary dance, Volvamos al baile investigates the forms of domination exerted over women’s bodies during Franco’s 40 years of fascist dictatorship through dance and gymnastics. The piece seeks to reconstruct a new narrative through the body, film archive, memory and intimacy.
Inka Romaní is a choreographer from Valencia (Spain). She trained at the Conservatory of Dance in Valencia, the Centre Chorégraphique de Toulouse and in London, where she worked at Sadler’s Wells Theatre. She received the Me, Myself & I award (2019), completed a Masters in Artistic Production in 2022 and has led mediation projects for IVAM and Centre del Carme. She has been an artist-in-residence at KVS (Brussels), El Graner (Barcelona), La Licorera–Bienal de Danza de Cali, Cité internationale des arts and la briqueterie CDCN. In 2024, she received a danceWEB scholarship. In 2025–2026, she will be in residence at K3 (Hamburg).
