Making a Double-Backed Loom
Did you know that the human body is made up of tissues? We guarantee that this performance-workshop will leave its mark on your body — at least on your nervous and muscular tissue. We will learn how to weave — by spinning webs. We will play with back-to-back looms — simple and double. We will use all kinds of bodies — walls, trees, swings, and whatever else we can find in the Loja Oficina Garden. But above all, we will get tangled up in the looms’ webs — listening, moving, and counting, thread by thread.
Collective Embroidery
“If This House Were Mine” proposes thinking of Guimarães Embroidery as a space for experimentation, tradition, creation, and visibility. Conceived as an interactive exhibition, the project is currently taking shape and can be experienced on the first floor of the Loja Oficina, inviting the public to take part in its creative process. Through this practice, different creatives are invited to reflect on and intervene in this cultural and identity heritage, valuing the traditional art and knowledge of Guimarães Embroidery through a process of co-creation and participation.
With “Collective Embroidery”, we aim to share and celebrate the knowledge and practices of Guimarães Embroidery, inviting people to share a common space and spend time together while learning, experimenting with, or rediscovering skills kept in their memories and drawers. More than learning a technique, this is an invitation to become part of a collective creative process, where heritage remains alive through practice, conversation, and encounters between generations.
Project co-funded by the European Union through the NORTE 2030 Regional Programme.
